Our first week of Whole30 is over! Let me tell you, I decided to start on the most stupid weeks of them all - Dylan flew to Christchurch to play a show on Friday and I went out to brunch with my friend, Zoe, on Saturday.

Why are we doing Whole30? I'm sick of feeling bloated and need a kick up the ass, really. I've heard so many amazing (and not so amazing) things about it, so why not try it? And document it while I'm at it. Dylan is also partaking in my experiment, but he's also still having protein shakes like some mad bodybuilder.

Not to sound completely like my Grandmother, but pickling is one of my favourite things to do. There is nothing more satisfying than opening a jar of your own chutney, sauerkraut, preserved lemons or jam and being all "hells yeah - I made this!". I've never made my own pickled gherkins before, so I spent the last month or so researching recipes to inspire my own concoction when our gherkins starting to come into fruition.

The last stop in our whirlwind adventure was the beautiful paradise that is Phu Quoc - a tiny Vietnamese Island off the coast of Cambodia. Our tour guide in Hanoi had mentioned it was an upcoming resort island, modelled off the buzzing delight that is Phuket in Thailand.

2016 was a very special year for us both. It was filled with love and family, travel and adventure, fabulous family and friends, and as always, good coffee and good food.

And just like that, Christmas 2016 is over! We wanted to share a few photos from the day as this year was a little extra special for us - we got to celebrate it with both sides of our immediate family.. in our new home!

Whoa, where did October go? I feel like this year is going at a hundred miles an hour and I'm struggling to find the emergency brakes. Come on, 2016! Give us a break and slow down a little... I'm sure there is more than just me thats feeling like this.

Anyway, I thought I would recap on the month that was October by way of a 'currently' post. I use to post these every so often on a prior blog, and they were a really good way of keeping track of what has happened in the previous month.

After an exhausting overnight train journey from Hanoi to Da Nang, we made our way to the beautiful Hoi An. Hoi An is a costal town in the Quang Nam province which is predominantly (well, Hoi An Old Town) known for being a well-preserved example of a South-East Asian trading port from the 15th to 19th century - and trust us - it is breathtaking.
